IT Unified Communications Engineer

 

·              Responsible for the engineering and administration of all activities pertinent to an enterprise class Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM), Call Manager, 9.2., VoIP telephony and Unity Connection 9 voice mail system environment.  Duties include: troubleshooting and resolving problems, including handling outage situations, failed calls, SIP gateway issues and other problems of a highly visible nature.  Also manage maintenance requests for telephone additions, moves, changes, deletes, and hunt groups in Call Manager and Unity voice mail for 100,000 users in over 100 locations.  Model phones include: Cisco 7937, 7945, 8841, 8861 and IP Communicator.  Manages operations for a large Call Manager based VoIP phone system including: adding new sites, partitions, calling search spaces, device pools, upgrading phone software, managing VG224 analog gateways and troubleshooting physical phones.

·              Engineered, project managed and facilitated installation of 600+ Cisco IP phones at a large facility.  Responsibilities included conducting a site survey of the current telephone system and recommending various improvements.

·              Controlled the corporate video conferencing system, manufactured by LifeSize located at 23 locations in the US. The system included a Radvision multipoint control unit video bridge and Pathfinder firewall traversal system.  Responsibilities included: set up and management of video calls, troubleshooting, resolving video related problems, executive support and training to employees.
 

·              Evaluated different vendors and recommended a final vendor used in migrating Call Manager from version 6.1 to version 9.1.  Negotiated final pricing and actualized a $25,000 savings.  Acted as technical liaison and co-managed the upgrade with the vendor. Evaluated various new vendors for the corporate video system and saved the company over $50,000 while managing the installation in over 20 locations.

·              During Hurricane Sandy, a site in New York City was flooded and over 100 teammates were without telephone service. I relocated the effected team and established communications within two days.

·              Implemented Skype for Business for 70 India-based users. Created relay into Skype from Call Manager so individuals could use 6-digit internal dialing from Call Manager to call Skype.

 

MATHESON TRI-GAS, 2005 to 2009

 

IT Voice and Data Team Leader

 

·              Corporate administrator of the Cisco VoIP phone system for all personnel and hunt group changes.

·              Installed Cisco 1800 and 2800 series routers, 2960 and 3560 series switches and Cisco Aironet wireless access points.

·              Implemented VoIP telephone systems for 60 users at three locations.  Projects included evaluation and selection of vendors, final vendor recommendations to management, creation of a capital budget and providing for seamless installation and training of users at each location.

·              Project managed an RFP to upgrade the corporate voice and data network from Frame Relay to Multiprotocol Label Switching accommodating 70 locations.  Project included negotiating with vendors, bid solicitation, and management through the installation phase of the new network.

·              Managed five employees to plan and execute the relocation of the corporate servers and networking hardware from a casual office setting to a Tier-1, co-location facility designed for hosting data networking hardware.  Evaluated co-location vendors for factors such as monthly cost, recommended geographic location of the facility, redundant power grid options, and risk analysis from manmade or natural disasters.  Completed the task ahead of budget and time schedule.

·              Installed a Tandberg video teleconferencing system with a Codian videoconference bridge at seven locations globally.  Assisted in set-up, configuration and training of the Tandberg units and provided video training to employees.  Savings to the company was in excess of $500,000 per year.

·              Assisted with the physical relocation of corporate headquarters.  Specified cat5-e cabling network and wireless networking requirements.  Negotiated with electricians for installation of cabling infrastructure.                 

·              Managed vendor selection to host “town hall” meetings where the CEO and other corporate officers could address over 1,000 employees at 70+ locations using streaming video over the Internet.  Assisted in production of the meetings, organization of PowerPoint and video-based presentation materials, managed technical coordinators at each location, and testing/certification of the network to handle video traffic.

·              Managed consolidating individual cell phone user plans that were being expensed on employee vouchers.  Arranged for transfer into a pooled-minute corporate plan with shared airtime minutes.  Composed a list of 400 accounts for presentation to vendors for best pricing and achieved annual savings of $200,000.

·              Performed telecom expense management and recovered $50,000 from a vendor during one review.

·              Acted as the vendor relationship manager for all data and voice telecom services including national voice and data contracts, cell phone plans, calling cards, and phone systems.  Renegotiated bids and contracts and saved $200,000 annually from a major teleconferencing service provider.

 

AT&T, 1990 to 2004

 

Network Engineer and Project Manager (1995-2004)

 

·              Project managed the physical relocation of DS-1 and DS-3 voice and data circuits from the Local Exchange Companies (LEC) network to AT&T’s local network for access savings on the “last mile”.  Position required the ability to lead and manage across different internal organizations, including City Operations, Outside Workforce (OSWF), while negotiating with customers for minimum circuit downtime during the relocation.  Actualized access savings in excess of $1 million.
 

 

·              Supervised the operations and maintenance of the Electronic Communications Trouble Administration Gateway (ECTA).  This is an e-bonded Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) based, Wide Area Network, (WAN) connecting AT&T and the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) community.  It allows for trouble report transactions to be exchanged between AT&T and its bonding partners in real time.  Managed all system releases and upgrades to the ECTA Gateway and supervised a cross-organizational team of 10 individuals that included employees and outside vendor consultants.  Negotiated all system interface agreements with the LEC community and acted as liaison at industry forum meetings, ATIS, in support of electronic bonding. Accomplishments included project managing an upgrade from X.25 to TCP as the communications media for the ECTA Gateway resulting savings of $540,000 per year.

·              Designed Synchronous Optical Networks for AT&T's market entries into Dallas and Seattle.  These were complete network designs that included OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48 fiber rings with specifications of single mode or multi-mode fiber optic cable.  Designs incorporated one-time cost estimates for all hardware, DDM-1000, SLC etc. as well as monthly operational costs to run the network.  Responsibilities included submitting an executive summary to senior leadership with an estimated return on investment period. 

 

Circuit Designer (1993 to 1995)

 

·              Responsible for creating engineering facility WORD documents to the On Site Work Force (OSWF) that specified the physical route called a “SPAN” of a circuit including the network routing within a central office.  Position required thorough knowledge of telecommunications equipment including: DACS, DSX, multiplexers, Integrated Access Terminals (IAT), Network Central Operations equipment (NCOE), DCME, as well as different facility types including: DS-1, DS-3, E1, SDH, T1, T3, T4 and other HFL facilities.
